Fears grow for British mother missing in Tenerife who disappeared after getting off at wrong bus stop as son flies out

A British man flew to Tenerife today to find his mother, who went missing after getting off at the wrong bus stop.

Gary Myers is involved in the search for his mother Kathy on the largest Canary Island, where she owns a property and spends half the year with her husband Steve.

Mr Myers said his 70-year-old mother, from Liverpool, had a brain tumor removed several years ago and was a ‘vulnerable person’ with ‘damage to her memory’.

The last known sighting of his mother was last night in Puertito de Guimar, a quiet seaside village on Tenerife’s south-east coast, 32 kilometers southwest of the capital Santa Cruz.

He urged anyone with information about his mother’s whereabouts to contact police after she ‘got on the bus and got off at the wrong stop’ on her way home from hospital this morning.

Mr Myers, who lives in the UK, said in a social media post on a missing persons website in Tenerife: ‘Hello, my mother went missing on the bus ride home from the hospital in Candelaria.

‘He was last seen last night around 20:00 (FRI) in Puertito De Guimar. His phone is dead and he is a defenseless person. He’s wearing a black T-shirt.

‘I am currently traveling to Tenerife to look for him but if you see anything please contact the police. ‘He was reported as a missing person.’

Mr Myers’ missing mother is not the only Brit missing from Tenerife this year.

A holidaymaker, identified only as Michael, got lost on the island after going for an early morning walk and arrived with his wife a few hours ago.

His disappearance was reported to the police and he was found hours later.

Susan Hornby, from Dorset, also disappeared during a trip to Tenerife with her husband Peter on February 6.

The 76-year-old man got lost during a three-hour hike and was found in a ravine about 30 hours later and dramatically taken to hospital.

Louise Bakewell, who appealed for Ms Hornby to be found, thanked well-wishers for their interest.

He said: ‘Thank you so much for all your help and advice. What a wonderful group of people; My faith in humanity has been completely and truly restored.

‘To explain; He went for a walk alone and then fell ill. He didn’t find my iPhone active on his phone; Please tell your friends and relatives to always enable this if possible to stay safe.’
