‘Few will be fooled by Starmer’s attempt to shift the spotlight away f | Politics | News

Who is responsible for the miserable state of the British economy? Most reasonable people can point to Labor Chancellor Rachel Reeves and her car-crash Budget, or previous Tory governments that did so much damage over 14 years.

But no. The real blame for our economic disaster lies with the 17.4 million Britons who dared to vote for Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum, according to Labor prime minister Sir Keir Starmer speaking on Monday. Starmer’s transparent attempt to divert attention away from his chancellor and his disastrous budget will fool few people.

We can all see that Reeves’ decision to impose another £26bn in taxes while spending another £9bn on welfare is yet another attack on Britain’s alarm clock that keeps this country afloat.

Worse still, we now know that his budget is based on fixed figures. As leader of Reform UK, I wrote to ask the parliamentary ethics watchdog to investigate how Reeves misled the British public.

My MP, Richard Tice, wrote to the prime minister and asked if he had broken the ministerial code.

But in Labour’s imaginary world, none of this matters. Instead, at Monday’s press conference, Starmer demanded that “we all face the truth now”.

It’s not the reality of the UK’s self-inflicted economic mess, but the fantasy version that says Brexit has “significantly damaged our economy” and so the UK must now “continue moving towards a closer relationship with the EU” under Labor rule.

The Prime Minister and his friends in big business have always been dismissive of Brexit and the millions who voted for it. Now they want to bring us as close to single market membership as they can.

They are not economically literate enough to see the advantages of a properly implemented Brexit.

Most small businesses voted for Brexit because they wanted to cut red tape. Instead, the situation has gotten worse because EU rules are still in place.

The biggest responsible for this is the Conservative Party. Since Boris’s so-called “oven-ready” deal with the EU, Conservative governments have betrayed Brexit’s true potential.

During 14 years of Tory rule, they have increased your taxes, increased your energy bills and tripled your national debt, all without doing anything to defend our independence. They never deserve to be forgiven.

Only Reformation England can be trusted to mend broken Britain. We will cut public spending, cut red tape, scrap EU rules and stand up for the small businesses and workers who make up the alarm clock that makes Britain.

We will also finally deliver on our promise on Brexit by taking back control of Britain’s borders, laws and currency. And we will never try to blame British voters for the problems created by the institution’s own failures.
