Fistral Beach: Two people die after being pulled from sea at UK beauty spot

A man and a woman have died after being pulled from the water on a beach in Cornwall.

Emergency services were called to Fistral Beach in Newquay at around 9.45pm on Sunday evening following news that two people had been rescued from the sea.

Eyewitnesses said a rescue helicopter was seen briefly circling overhead and as many as nine emergency vehicles were sent to the scene in South Fistral.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that a man and a woman were pronounced dead on the beach. Their families have been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called by the South West Ambulance Service at around 9.45pm on Sunday, July 26, following reports that two people had been pulled from the water at Fistral Beach in Newquay.

“Emergency services attended and a cordon was established which has since been removed.

“Unfortunately, a man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.

“A file will be prepared for HM Coroner.”

A coastguard spokesman said: “HM Coastguard is responding to an incident in the South Fistral area of ​​Newquay overnight.

“First at around 9.30pm (26 July) Coastguard Rescue Teams from Newquay, Padstow and St Agnes, lifeboats from Newquay RNLI and an HM Coastguard helicopter were dispatched to the scene along with other emergency services.”
