Five Alive citrus drink fans still ask why Coca-Cola killed their favorite beverage

The popular Minute Maid citrus drink, which disappeared from store shelves decades ago, still lives on in the memories of children who grew up drinking it in the 1980s.
Minute Maid’s parent company, Coca-Cola, quietly discontinued Five Alive around 1995.
But nostalgic social media posts keep us wondering why.

“When did Five Alive drop?” One person on Reddit wondered about a year ago.
In the same period, another post containing an advertisement from 1979, when Five Alive was launched, caused emotional reactions.

“Honestly, I loved this stuff,” one reviewer wrote.
“Why did he leave?” someone else asked.
“I miss this stuff so much,” another wrote.

“I could go Five Alive right now,” one Reddit user wrote three years ago.
“Does anyone remember Five Alive?” someone else asked at the same time.
Both posts received enthusiastic responses from like-minded readers.
Some people even have fond memories of the cheaper, frozen concentrated version of the drink.

“Do you remember how you slowly slid out of the box?” wrote a Reddit user a year ago, prompting a “SSHHHHHHHHHPLOP” response from another commenter.
Five Alive disappeared from the US market in the mid-90s when Coca-Cola introduced Fruitopia in 1994 to keep up with trends. Tasting Table reported.

Fruitopia didn’t last long either, despite a $30 million marketing campaign, inclusion in McDonald’s beverage offerings and a shout-out by Stephen Hawking in “The Simpsons.” Coca-Cola removed this practice in 2003.
Coca-Cola announced earlier this year that it was completely discontinuing Minute Maid’s frozen juice concentrate products “in response to changing consumer preferences,” Fox News Business reported.

Five Alive may have disappeared from American stores, but it’s not completely gone.
Coca-Cola sells both Five Alive and Fruitopia in Canada.
According to Tasting Table, Five Alive is also available in Nigeria.

On its website, Walmart promotes Five Alive as a “nutritious blend of five fruit flavors” that “has a ‘citrus flavor’ that makes you feel alive!”
