Former Patriots WR Josh Gordon says Tom Brady made him and other teammates live with him during the offseason

Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has built an NFL dynasty and developed an obsessive habit every time.

Brady’s expectations for his receivers were no different.

Former Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon recently appeared on a livestream and revealed just how obsessive Brady’s preparation really is, saying the quarterback drives his receivers to his home for hours of practice during the offseason.

“He had us live with him during the off-season,” Gordon said.

“Like that train over there, his wife making us dinner and stuff like that. It would be me, Julian Edelman, and Rob Gronkowski. We’d do the craziest routine, like standing in one spot, and we’d catch a particular pass at least 50 times…

Using some expletives for emphasis, Gordon praised Brady’s obsession.

“His coach, Alex Guerrero, is holding the gun like a speedometer for baseball, measuring whether he can stay at 62 miles per hour… Meanwhile your hands are getting hit hard… It’s the craziest thing… He’s obsessed, bro. It’s the craziest thing. When you see how hard people prepare.”

Josh Gordon remains one of the most intriguing what-if stories in American sports.

Blessed with a rare combination of size and Olympic speed, his 2013 season with the Browns (1,646 yards in just 14 games) remains one of the most raw displays of athletic talent the NFL has ever seen.

But his premiership was derailed by repeated suspensions due to the league’s substance abuse policy.

When New England traded for Gordon in 2018, it felt like the final throw of the dice for a player who had exhausted any remaining goodwill in the league.

Brady seemed determined to do what few organizations can do: Surround a broad base of talent with enough structure to eventually bring them all together. It almost worked.

Gordon caught 40 passes for 737 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games that season, revealing the talent that made him a superstar.

But in the end, the demons prevailed, leading to another suspension before the Patriots went on to win Super Bowl LIII.

Looking back, it’s hard not to wonder what might have happened if Gordon’s natural talents had completely matched Brady’s obsessive approach to football.
