Jim Jordan blames Democrats for 10 percent approval rating of Congress

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) blamed Democrats for Congress’ approval rating falling to just 10 percent in the new Gallup poll.
We speak to host Stuart Varney on Fox Business Network “Varney & Co.” The Ohio Republican blamed the minority party for a record-long government shutdown in the fall. The stalemate stemmed from Democrats seeking an extension of pandemic-era subsidies offered under the Affordable Care Act that have not yet taken effect.
Jordan then harshly criticized the Biden administration’s immigration policies and criticized Democrats for delaying funding for the Department of Homeland Security. The department has operated without funding for more than two months as Democrats seek to reform immigration enforcement procedures after federal officers fatally shot two American citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis earlier this year.
“So of course people are going to be disappointed in the crazy things Democrats are proposing and the crazy things they’re doing,” Jordan said.
Gallup pollThe survey, conducted from April 1 to April 15, found that 86 percent of 1,001 respondents disapproved of how Congress conducted its business, reaching a record high on four other occasions (December 2011, February 2012, November 2013 and November 2015).
The legislature hasn’t actually had a higher approval rating than approval in more than two decades, according to a Gallup poll. The last time Congress had a disapproval rate below 60 percent was May 2009.
Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, later noted that passing legislation was a “cumbersome process” but again blamed Democrats for why Americans dislike Congress.
“This is just part of the way the founders designed this amazing thing we call America, with its checks and balances, its best government ever,” he told Varney. “But it can still be complicated sometimes. So I understand that in general terms.”
“But I think it’s the crazy Democrat policies that are driving the attitude that Americans in particular have about Congress,” he added.
