Former Union Minister RK Singh resigns from BJP after suspension

Former Union Minister RK Singh on Sunday sent his resignation letter to Bharatiya Janata Party National President JP Nadda.

The resignation comes after RK Singh was recently suspended from the BJP party for his “anti-party” activities. He was suspended from office just a day after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections.

In his letter to the BJP National President, Singh stated that he had received a letter regarding the party’s decision to suspend him, citing anti-party activities, and sought an explanation as to why he should not be expelled. However, anti-party activities were not mentioned in the letter.
“I received a letter from some media persons asking why the party has decided to expel me for anti-party activities and why I should not be expelled from the party (copy attached). The letter does not mention the anti-party activities of which I am accused. I cannot provide any apparent justification against the unspecified accusations,” the letter said.

He also stated that the reason for the demonstration was most likely due to his statement against distributing tickets to people with criminal backgrounds. He concluded the letter by stating that he has officially resigned from the BJP party.

Meanwhile, former Arrah MP RK Singh had expressed his disagreements with the party’s internal dynamics and criticized many NDA leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and JD(U) leader Anant Singh. He also questioned the Election Commission’s handling of law and order issues during the elections. The BJP’s suspension notice stated that Singh’s activities had harmed the party and led to serious indiscipline. Besides Singh, two other leaders, MLC Ashok Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal, were also suspended from office for similar reasons.”Shri Raj Kumar Singh Ji, Former MLA, Arrah, Your activities fall under the category of anti-party and undisciplined behavior. The party has taken this matter seriously as it is damaging to the organisation. Therefore, you are being suspended from the party as per instructions and a show notice is being issued asking why you should not leave. Expelled from the party,” read the letter. Earlier this month, Singh alleged that the state government was involved in a Rs 62,000-crore corruption scandal linked to an energy project. He also sent the relevant documents to the official X account. Singh also called on the Election Commission to strictly implement the Model Code of Conduct, calling the situation a “failure” on the part of both the poll body and the local government.

Two-time MP from Bihar’s Arrah constituency and former Minister of State for Power and Renewable Energy (Independent Officer) RK Singh lost his seat in the 2024 general elections.
