Four men in their 20s killed as car hits lamppost in Merseyside

Four men in their 20s died after a car crashed into a lamppost on Merseyside in the early hours of Friday.

Merseyside Police were called to reports that a black Seat Cupra had gone off the road after crashing into a lamppost in Liverpool Road, Huyton, just before 2am while traveling from Liverpool to Knowsley.

Two 23-year-old men, a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Relatives have been informed and will be supported by officers.

It was learned that the 27-year-old man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was hospitalized and his condition was stable.

Merseyside Police added that a police cordon had been established “as part of the early stages of the investigation”.

Roads are closed on Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road is closed in both directions from its junction with Finch Lane to its junction with Princess Drive.

These closures are likely to continue over the weekend.

“We understand this happened very early this morning, but if anyone saw the incident or was passing by in the area immediately before it occurred, please get in touch. Similarly, if you live in the area and have doorbell footage of the black Seat Cupra or the incident, please contact us. You may have information or footage that may be useful to our investigation.”
