Francesca Hong distances herself from Hasan Piker after fundraiser

Wisconsin state representative and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong appeared to distance herself from far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker on Wednesday after appearing on his livestream less than two weeks ago.
While being interviewed on “MS NOW Reports,” Hong was asked about his condition at the end of June. Go on Piker’s live broadcastThis also served as a fundraiser for his campaign. Hong faced criticism for campaigning with Piker from former Democratic Wisconsin Election Commissioner Ann Jacobs, who claimed he was “willing to sell out Wisconsin Jews for a few dollars.”
“I condemn hatred, discrimination, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, and all forms of dehumanization of communities,” Hong said. “It’s important to be on these broadcasts to get our messages out there where campaigns are having a hard time reaching voters. Just because I’m on a platform certainly doesn’t mean I endorse everything the hosts or other people involved say.”

He added, “And if the candidates and elected officials who are talking to the more controversial hosts, if we’re going to be held accountable for everything they’ve ever said, I just want to point out that [Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Wis.,] “The presumptive Republican nominee appeared on a radio show calling for the execution of Minnesota’s governor.”
“So I think it’s important to understand that when we campaign in areas where people may not have heard our message yet, it’s important to let them know that we’re a campaign fighting for working-class people, and it’s important for folks to participate in our elections in Wisconsin,” Hong said.

Piker has faced widespread backlash over the years for controversial statements such as claiming that America “deserved” 9/11 and that Hamas was “a thousand times better” than Israel.
Despite his comments, Piker has become a growing figure within the Democratic Party, campaigning with progressive candidates such as Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
Hong, who describes himself as a democratic socialist, has made controversial statements in the past, calling for efforts to defund and abolish the police.

“I support defunding the police as a first step towards abolishing the police,” Hong wrote online in 2020, according to CNN.
Hong appeared to backtrack on those comments in a statement to Fox News Digital in May.

“There is no way I would want to cut resources for public safety,” Hong said. “I don’t like crime. I don’t like unsafe streets. I also don’t like law enforcement abusing their power.”
