A French man has been charged with murder and rape after a two-year-old girl was found dead at an address in Surrey on Thursday evening. 31-year-old Kevin Kerjean, a French national born in the Central African Republic, was arrested on charges of rape of a child under 13, sexual assault of a child under 13 and murder.
Officers were called to an address in Pyrcroft Road, Chertsey, at around 5.40pm on Thursday following reports of safety concerns. On arrival, a two-year-old girl was tragically found dead inside the property. An investigation by the Major Crime Squad is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
At this stage Surrey Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Kerjean appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance at Guildford Crown Court on Monday, June 29.
Detective Superintendent Jon Groenen said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the boy’s family and everyone who knew him.
“Our teams are working hard to get a picture of what happened and there will remain a significant police presence on Pyrcroft Road for the coming days.
“We appreciate that the incident itself, as well as a significant police presence, will be concerning for residents and we would like to thank them for their co-operation in carrying out our investigation.”
On Friday, bouquets of flowers were left at the entrance of Syward Place, on the corner of Pycroft Road and Bell Bridge Road.
