In the race for governor of Georgia, Trump is backing Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in an unexpectedly ugly fight for the Republican nomination. Jones, who comes from a wealthy Georgia family, donated $19 million to his campaign. But billionaire Rick Jackson, a healthcare mogul, has invested more than $83 million of his fortune in racing. Trump’s powers of approval have rarely been tested against this level of unbalanced spending.
Trump remains on the sidelines of the Georgia Senate race, leaving a crowded field of hopefuls looking to beat Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff, who is running unopposed for his party’s nomination.
Trump, who remains on the sidelines in next week’s Senate runoff elections in Texas, endorsed Attorney General Ken Paxton over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn on Tuesday.
The polling place in Georgia’s Fulton County will remain open for another 4 hours after the police search. Georgia’s secretary of state said this would not delay reporting the remaining results for the county.
The Secretary of State’s office said a judge ordered a zone at Ison Springs Elementary School to remain open until 11:02 p.m. because the school was placed on lockdown just before noon for an event unrelated to the election and remained closed until 4 p.m.
Sandy Springs police said officers responded to a call about a man dressed in military-style fatigues and heard possible gunshots in the area. Police reported that a suspect was detained after an extensive search.
All 11 locations in Cobb County were staying open late, with closing times ranging from six minutes to an hour.
