George E. Johnson, Trailblazing Entrepreneur, Dies at 99

George E. Johnson, the groundbreaking entrepreneur who was born in a cabin in Mississippi and grew up to create an iconic company, has died at the age of 99. By the mid-1960s, Johnson’s products controlled nearly 80% of the Black hair care market, and in 1971, it became one of the first Black-owned companies to be traded on the American stock exchange. Sunday TODAY’s Willie Geist remembers a life well lived.
