Nagalakshmi Choudhari, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, on Thursday emphasized that education is the greatest source of strength for women and the most reliable guide to a successful and meaningful life.

He was speaking at an interaction program with college students at the auditorium of the district administration building in Koppal.

The program was jointly organized by the Karnataka State Commission for Women, district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Police Department and Women and Child Development Department.

Quoting the proverb “Knowledge is life, ignorance is death”, Dr. Choudhari said that education alone enables individuals to understand the world, their rights, duties and responsibilities.

“Every woman should be educated. Education should be used as a tool of empowerment. During student years, girls should avoid unnecessary distractions and temptations, focus on learning and work hard to achieve success. There is no shortcut to success. Dedication and perseverance are the only mantra,” she said.

Cautioning students about the misuse of social media, she said that platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and reels have become highly attractive across age groups.

“Women are often emotionally vulnerable. Scammers use social media to trap innocent girls and women, sometimes leading to blackmail and serious consequences including loss of life,” he warned.

He advised students to be extremely careful online, avoid accepting friend requests from strangers and avoid unnecessary contact with people they do not know.

Dr. Choudhari urged the students to positively use the power of the internet and social media for their education and career development. In case of cyber fraud, he advised people to contact cyber helpline 1930, child helpline 1098 or police emergency number 112 for immediate assistance.

He also emphasized the importance of understanding the Constitution.

“The Constitution gives us rights, but many lack awareness on how to exercise these rights. Everyone should know their rights and have the courage to protest injustice,” he said.

Referring to various government welfare schemes, he encouraged his students to learn about them and apply to relevant departments to avail the benefits.

“For government programs to be successful, beneficiaries must also act responsibly and ensure appropriate use,” he added.

Students from different parts of the district interacted with the president and expressed their complaints regarding the lack of basic infrastructure in their villages and colleges.

Responding to these concerns, Dr. Choudhari instructed the officials concerned to take necessary precautions.

Deputy Commissioner Suresh B. Itnal, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Varnit Negi, Superintendent of Police Ram L. Arasiddi, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Parashuram Y. Shetteppanavar, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education Jagadish and other district level officers, university lecturers and students were present.
