GHMC to Move SC to Vacate Stay Order

Hyderabad: The GHMC has decided to approach the Supreme Court to set aside the order passed early on Monday over felling of trees within 25 to 35 meters of the environmentally sensitive zone around Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park.
While the government will approach the Supreme Court, a senior municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) official said, a senior GHMC official maintained that there was no order to stop work on a flyover on Banjara Hills Road No. 2 under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project.
“The order relates only to felling of trees within the 25 to 35 meter environmentally sensitive zone around the park. This should not be misinterpreted as an order to stop work,” said a GHMC official.
GHMC has also implemented a ‘zero parking violation’ policy’ to carry out projects around KBR Park. Accordingly, there will be no need to cut down the trees around the national park in order to carry out infrastructure works. As part of this, trees in the central media will be relocated using transplantation methods.
GHMC has proposed to construct seven flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park; of which Banjara Hills Road No. Work on the columns of the bridge at 2 can be seen. “The deadline for these works is 2028. We prefer steel-on-concrete bridges, which speed up the working time manifold,” said a GHMC official.
