MEA Summons Bangladesh Envoy Over Threat To Indian High Commission In Dhaka | World News

India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah following a security threat to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
The call came after National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah made a public speech containing anti-India remarks. Abdullah threatened to isolate the Seven Sisters states and offer support to Northeastern separatists if Bangladesh faced instability. He is known for his strong anti-India stance.

This development comes a day after Bangladesh celebrated Victory Day with a cultural program at the Bangladesh Embassy in Delhi. High Commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah emphasized Bangladesh’s commitment to its people, especially the young generation, and spoke about the young population of the country.
High Commissioner Hamidullah also emphasized the importance of Bangladesh-India relations and noted their focus on peace, prosperity and regional security, drawing attention to mutual benefits.
Hamidullah said, “The whole of Bangladesh and all of us are determined to fulfill the aspirations of our people, especially the young generation. We have a very young demographic… We believe that our relationship with India is in our common interest. We have mutual dependence… We are completely focused on prosperity, peace and security in the region.” he said.
The event also showcased Bangladesh’s culture and heritage, celebrating its liberation and independence while also highlighting its commitment to strengthening ties with India.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar greeted Bangladesh on Bijoy Dibosh with his post on X. “Bijoy Dibosh greetings to Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Touhid Hossain, the Interim Government and the people of Bangladesh,” he wrote.
On the 54th anniversary of the Bangladesh Liberation War, eight Muktijoddhas and two officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces arrived in India on December 14, 2025, to participate in the Vijay Diwas celebrations in Kolkata, the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh said. Similarly, eight Indian war veterans and two officers serving in the Indian Armed Forces reached Dhaka on December 15 for Bangladesh’s Victory Day celebrations.
