Girl, 15, dies after getting into difficulty in water at popular beach | UK | News

Emergency services were called to the foreshore on Albert Road at around 3.30pm on a public holiday Monday, May 25, after concerns grew for the safety of a 15-year-old girl.
Merseyside Police made a statement on Saturday, May 30, announcing that the girl’s name was Chiedza Nyanjowa.
A force spokesman said: “Chiedza Nyanjowa, who was from the Cheshire area, was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where he sadly passed away earlier today, Saturday 30 May.”
“His family would like to express their gratitude to everyone who helped Chiedza,” his family said at the memorial service. Liverpool ECHO.
“His family is happy to have people around him to support him, their support shows that he is loved.
“This is a difficult time for the family who appreciate any prayers.
“Her family describes her as a cheerful person who loved Jesus and going to church. She loved cooking, was a giver, and wanted to be a nurse when she grew up so she could give back.”
“He will be greatly missed and remembered for his gentle spirit.”
The matter was referred to the Sefton Coroner’s office. On Thursday, the ECHO reported how two off-duty nurses tried to help Chiedza after rescuers pulled him from the water.
It is understood the two nurses were at sea before offering to help. National Trust staff also reportedly attended the scene, followed by lifeguards and two nurses performed CPR on the teenager.
A person close to one of the nurses involved told the ECHO: “[They] They are the ones giving life-saving treatment on the beach for 30 minutes until the air ambulance arrives. They’re both nurses.”
The force confirmed officers continue to support the family as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
DCI Nuttall said: “We know Formby beach was exceptionally busy on Bank Holiday Monday, but I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information that could assist our investigations to get in touch urgently.
“Our officers and I would also like to express our gratitude to the citizens who came to the aid of the 15-year-old girl and her family during such tragic circumstances on Formby beach.”
