Girl Adopts Zoo Elephant ‘Sarswati’ on Birthday

Visakhapatnam: Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP), Visakhapatnam, announced the adoption of Asian elephant ‘Sarswati’ under its Animal Adoption Programme.

Kumari Nitya Jasti, daughter of Jasti Srikanth and Jasti Asha, adopted the elephant to celebrate her birthday celebrations. The family contributed Rs. 36,000 for a month, starting May 25, and promised to continue adoptions for a year.

Zoo officials thanked Kumari Nitya Jasti for supporting the care and conservation of wildlife. Curator G. Mangamma, senior veterinarian Dr. During the felicitation programme, attended by Bhanu and co-curators B. Gopi and PV Chowdary, he presented adoption certificates and souvenir kits to the family.

The Animal Adoption Scheme encourages public participation in wildlife conservation and offers tax exemption benefits under Section 80G(5) of the Income Tax Act, officials said.
