Gold jewellery, cash stolen from houses in Ranipet district

Thieves escaped with 27 sovereign gold ornaments and ₹1 lakh cash from two houses in Ranipet’s Thimiri village near Arcot town on Sunday.
Police said that in the first incident, the victim, 34-year-old S. Thamizharasi, was living in Thimiri village with her three daughters after the death of her husband, retired Army personnel K. Saravanan, a few years ago. Initial investigation revealed that Thamizharasi went to her mother-in-law’s house in Arcot town with her children on Friday. On his return, he saw that the main door was broken. He checked the locker and found 18 gold jewellery, ₹53,000 cash missing.
In a separate incident on the same street, thieves escaped from the house of 50-year-old J. Kokila with nine gold jewelery and ₹47,000 in cash. Police said Kokila went to her relative’s house in Ranipet town and when she returned home, she found valuables and money missing.
Upon notice, Thimiri police rushed to the house together with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. The police recorded camera footage along the route of the house. Police Chief P. Sibin formed special teams to catch the suspects. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
