Good Morning Britain viewers left reeling over ‘painful’ David Lammy interview | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Labour’s David Lammy was questioned about the ongoing Iran conflict when he appeared on today’s (Friday, March 6) episode of Good Morning Britain, hosted by Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh. But just minutes after the interview began, ITV viewers flocked to X to comment on how “painful” it was to watch the episode.
During the 10-minute interview, one person shared on the social media platform: “Lammy a painful watch! #GMB” Another echoed with snoring emojis: “Can someone please throw another coin at David Lammy?” Sensing that the minister spoke without enthusiasm when reassuring viewers, another added: “Looks like Lammy’s batteries need changing #gmb.” Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: “A reassurance from David Lammy is as comforting as a seatbelt made of wet spaghetti.”

Despite the backlash, others took aim at the host’s questioning style, with one writing: “Seriously, is this the best interview you can do? At least @ranvir01 tried to challenge on honesty and cost of living, but the rest was weak.”
The comments came after two ITV presenters said the Metropolitan Police had arrested four men on suspicion of assisting Iran’s intelligence service.
An Iranian and three British-Iranian national couples have been arrested and the investigation is linked to suspicious surveillance of people and places linked to London’s Jewish communities.
When Garraway asked the Deputy Prime Minister whether the country should be worried about Iranian spies, he replied: “I think your audience will understand that Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism around the world. And unfortunately, that is an effect in our own society as well, and our intelligence services and regional terrorism services have prevented many actions over the last few years.”
“This is now a live investigation so I will not be commenting further on this other than thanking our security staff and police for keeping our people safe and continuing to do everything they can.”
Commander Helen Flanagan, head of London’s Counter Terrorism Police, said in a statement: “We understand that the public, particularly the Jewish community, may be concerned and, as always, I would ask them to remain vigilant and contact us if they see or hear anything that concerns them.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX.
