Ground crew member trapped in Air Canada flight cargo hold before takeoff

Passengers on a taxiing plane last month were reportedly terrified when chilling screams suddenly echoed from beneath the cabin just before takeoff.

A ground crew member was trapped in the plane’s cargo hold when the doors “accidentally closed” behind him, according to officials. local station CBC.

According to the report, the incident occurred on December 13 as Air Canada Flight 1502 was preparing to depart from Toronto Pearson Airport to Moncton, New Brunswick.

Following the incident, Airbus’ flight carrying 184 passengers was cancelled.

Passengers told CBC that as the plane began to move toward the runway, disturbing sounds of muffled crashes and desperate screams quickly filled the rear, causing flight attendants to run down the aisle in alarm.

“Some people sitting in the back of the plane heard the person screaming and hitting as he tried to get their attention,” passenger Gabrielle Caron said.

“We could see the crew gathering around the plane, so we knew something was up,” he added. “Then the pilot told us that there was a member of the crew in the luggage compartment.”

It was reported that the plane stopped before reaching the runway. Moments later, the trapped ground crew member safely exited the cargo and entered the cabin, reassuring shaken passengers that he was unharmed, Caron reported.

Air Canada confirmed to CBC that no injuries were reported in the incident.

Caron added that the crew member involved was assisting ground staff by loading items as an extra hand and may have been left unaware when the doors closed.

The plane eventually returned to the terminal, and passengers were asked to disembark while the flight crew completed the necessary paperwork, CBC reported.

The flight was ultimately canceled after several delays, the outlet said.
