Hackney hotel fire: ‘Keep windows shut’ as 70 firefighters tackle blaze | UK | News

Emergency services rushed to the scene after a fire broke out on the top floor of a hotel in London. Around ten fire trucks and around 70 firefighters rushed to the blaze along Amhurst Road in Hackney.

Citizens were asked to keep their windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke rising into the sky. London Fire Brigade said the fire affected two rooms on the fifth and sixth floors of the building. All occupants were safely evacuated and no injuries have been reported at this time.

“Please avoid the area if you can at this time,” London Fire Brigade said in a statement.

“The brigade received the first of 14 fire-related calls at 1652 and Control Officers mobilized crews from Homerton, Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, Islington and surrounding fire stations to the scene.”

The 32-metre spiral staircase from Tottenham Fire Station was also deployed as an observation tower to provide greater situational awareness to the incident commander.

The fire also increased traffic in the area near Hackney Central Station. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
