Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death in broad daylight near a school in Hackney, East London. The victim, a man in his late 20s, died at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics at the London Ambulance Service.

The fatal stabbing occurred near a school on the afternoon of July 13. Police do not believe any students at the school were involved and are treating the incident as an “isolated incident.” Police were called to Downs Park Road in Hackney at around 1.42pm.

His family is aware of the situation and will continue to be supported by specialist police. While investigations into the incident continue, there is a large-scale police presence in the region. Police will remain at the scene throughout the night.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Our investigation is still in its early stages and officers are working rapidly to identify those responsible.

“Police will remain in the area overnight as our investigations continue and I would encourage anyone with any information to contact us.”

Detective Superintendent Brittany Clarke, who leads policing in the area, said: “We understand that this incident occurred in broad daylight near a school and will be of great concern to the local community.

“We do not believe this involves any students at the school and are treating this as an isolated incident.

“We will continue to update the community as much as possible.”
