Haryana MC polls: Counting of votes underway

Counting of votes for Ambala, Panchkula, Sonipat municipal corporations and some other civic bodies in Haryana continues on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Vote counting started at 08:00
Voting for the election of Mayor and district councilors in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat, chairman and councilors in Rewari municipal council and chairman and councilors in municipal committees of Sampla in Rohtak district, Dharuhera in Rewari district and Uklana in Hisar district was held on Sunday, May 10.
By-polls were also conducted for one ward each in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Taraori, Kanina and Sadhaura municipal councils and municipal committees.
Among the candidates in the fray in three municipal corporations for the mayoral post in Ambala, the BJP had fielded Akshita Saini against Congress candidate Kulwinder Kaur. Sonia Rani had contested as an Independent candidate.
In Panchkula, Shyamlal Bansal of the BJP and Sudha Bhardwaj of the Congress contested for the mayoral post along with Rajesh Kumar of the AAP and Manoj Agarwal of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
While the BJP nominated Rajiv Jain for the mayoral post in Sonipat, Kamal Diwan was the Congress candidate.
Voting was held for 20 wards in Ambala and Panchkula and 22 wards in Sonipat.
The Mayors currently serving in the three MCs of Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat are from the BJP.
Haryana State Election Commission spokesperson said instructions have been issued to District Election Officers and Returning Officers to ensure that the counting process is conducted in a fair, transparent, peaceful and orderly manner.
Vote counting started at the designated counting centers.
The spokesman said comprehensive and robust security arrangements have been made at all counting centres. Only authorized persons are allowed to enter counting sites. CCTV surveillance, barricades, deployment of adequate police force and all basic facilities have been provided at the centres.
