HC reiterates need for dedicated authority to protect Periyar

The Supreme Court of Kerala said the government should take into account the proposal of the court to establish a special authority for the protection of Periyar.

This is very important to revive the river. There is no delay in this regard, especially because there are countless people who cannot afford to purify or boil the water before using it. They are especially vulnerable children and elderly people who can get sick because of relying on dirty water. The court said that there is a need for a special authority for the river.

The Supreme Court previously expressed his concerns about serious health hazards due to the increase in the pollution of the river.
