8 people injured after out-of-control MTA bus crashes into vehicles in the Bronx

An out-of-control Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus crashed into several vehicles in the Bronx on Monday, injuring eight people.
According to the New York City Fire Department, the incident occurred between Cauldwell Boulevard and Trinity Boulevard shortly before 2 p.m.
The bus hit six vehicles in about six blocks.

The bus crashed into two vehicles in front of a school at East 163rd Street and Caldwell Avenue; One was pushed into a lamppost and the other was hit in the side.
Down the road, an SUV was pushed to the curb and the rear of a blue Coupe was smashed.

In the video taken from inside the bus, the screams of panicking passengers were heard.
The driver of the bus and 7 passengers were injured in the incident. They were all transported to Lincoln Medical, although their condition was unclear.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but the MTA is looking into factors such as mechanical failure, weather or the driver’s medical condition, WABC reported.
Police sources told WABC that the bus experienced a mechanical failure while climbing the hill when the driver stepped on the gas to accelerate and the driver may have hit the emergency brake and went out of control.
