India-U.S. deal: Is Congress with India’s interest or against it, asks BJP after Rahul Gandhi attacks PM

Slashing Leader of Opposition Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged bowing down under US pressure to finalize a trade deal, BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Tuesday (February 3, 2026) asked whether the Congress and others in the opposition were for or against India’s interests.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament House complex, the former Union minister claimed that many in the opposition were celebrating after the US imposed tariffs on India.
He also claimed that they were raising questions even after India signed free trade agreements with the UK and the European Union (EU).

“The question arises here whether the opposition and the Congress are for or against India’s interests,” Mr. Thakur said.
“This anti-India mentality is clearly visible in Rahul Gandhi, Congress and other opposition leaders because they do not even allow Parliament to function,” the BJP leader said. he added.

Addressing reporters at the Parliament House complex after he was not allowed to address the Lok Sabha for insisting on quoting an article referencing the unpublished “memoir” of former Army chief M M Naravane, Mr Gandhi said it was the first time in history that the leader of the opposition had not been allowed to address the president.
“We need to understand why a trade deal that was stuck for nearly four months was suddenly concluded last night,” Gandhi said, adding that “there is huge pressure on Prime Minister Modi.”
Asked what kind of pressure he was talking about, Mr Gandhi claimed there was a case against industrialist Gautam Adani in the US and much more to come on the Epstein files.
He claimed that Prime Minister Modi was “compromised” and that Indian farmers must understand that their hard work as well as their blood and sweat are being “sold” through the India-US trade deal. He also said the entire country was “sold out”.
