Hiromasa Urakawa: Second Japanese boxer from Tokyo event dies from brain injury

World Boxing Organization (WBO) said– external “Japanese boxer Hiromasa, who succumbed to tragic injuries during his struggle against Yoji Saito, mourns the passage of Hiromasa Urakawa.”
“This heartbreaking news comes only days after Shigetoshi Kotari, who died of injuries in the struggle against the same card.
“We expand our deepest condolences to families, friends and Japanese boxing community for this incredibly difficult time.”
Following the event, the Japanese Boxing Commission announced that all Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) title matches will now be 10 rounds instead of 12.
Urakawa, Irishman John Cooney, the third high -profile boxer who died in 2025 after he died in February after a fight in Belfast.
Cooney died at the age of 28 after he had an intracranial bleeding of his struggle against Welshman Nathan Howells.
