‘Home Improvement’ and ‘Tokyo Drift’ Star Zachery Ty Bryan Sentenced to 16 Months in DUI Plea Deal
Zachery Ty Bryan was sentenced to 16 months in prison for a DUI in 2024 after a California judge denied probation under a plea deal, according to court records; this was the sixth arrest in just five years.
The “Home Improvement” and “Tokyo Drift” actor pleaded guilty at a hearing in Riverside County, TheWrap learned Tuesday; where he pleaded guilty to prior drunken driving convictions and improvements for driving above a 0.15% blood alcohol level.
Bryan was given 57 days in jail and sentenced to 16 months in the county jail. The request for probation was rejected.
Former child actor Bryan, known for his role on the ABC comedy starring Tim Allen, was arrested in Oregon last November. The arrest violated his existing parole, and he was briefly held without bail in Eugene before being released.
Bryan was previously on parole for domestic assault. His fiancee, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, was also arrested during the November incident and booked on five charges, including drunken driving, reckless endangerment and attempted assault.
Bryan was also arrested in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in January 2025 on a charge of second-degree domestic violence. In that case, Cartwright, who has three children with Bryan, told police that she choked and punched Bryan.
Bryan’s sentence came from one of two 2024 DUI charges; one in February and the other in October. In 2023, he was charged with misdemeanor harassment, third-degree robbery and fourth-degree aggravated assault.
In 2020, Bryan was arrested in Oregon for allegedly strangling his then-girlfriend at her home.
Bryan rose to fame in the 1990s with his role as Brad Taylor on the TV series “Home Improvement.” His film credits include “True Heart” and “Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift.” He also starred in the Netflix series “The Guardians of Justice,” premiering in 2022.
