Horror as Frontier Airlines flight with 231 people onboard kills a pedestrian on runway during takeoff sparking slide evacuation

There was horror on Friday night when a Frontier Airlines plane heading to Los Angeles hit and killed a person walking on the runway at Denver International Airport.

Denver International Airport released a statement confirming that a man ‘jumped the perimeter fence’ near the runway and was shot two minutes later.

This person is deceased and has not been identified, but authorities do not believe this person was an airport employee.

The person was at least partially consumed by one of the engines, an official confirmed to ABC News.

Transport Secretary Sean Duffy explained Man shot as ‘trespasser’ who breached airport security before deliberately climbing fences. Officials who examined the fence said that the fence was solid.

Videos posted on social media showed the cabin of Frontier Flight 4345, an Airbus A321, filling with smoke and all passengers being forced to evacuate via emergency slides.

At least 12 minor injuries occurred when the plane collided with an unknown person on the runway at around 23.19 local time.

The five people on board were transported to local hospitals, while the remaining passengers were taken to the terminal and then departed on a new Frontier flight.

Passengers lingered around the engine and at the base of the slide as crew members told them to move away from the plane, the videos show.

Frontier Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement to the Daily Mail and said it was investigating what happened.

Air traffic control audio from ATC.com recorded the crew talking about the incident.

‘Tower, Border 4345, we are standing on the runway. ‘We just hit someone… there was a fire in the engine,’ the pilot was heard saying.

When asked how many people were on board, the pilot said: ‘There are 231 people on board… There was one person walking on the runway.’

The pilot then said that there was smoke on the plane and that the passengers and crew needed to evacuate.

Denver Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.

Frontier and the Federal Aviation Administration are continuing the investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board is also aware of the incident.

Runway 17L, where the crash occurred, will remain closed while authorities investigate the scene. The airport is expected to reopen within a few hours.
