Horror as man dies at sea near UK seaside town as police swarm scene | UK | News

A man has died and another is in hospital after he got into trouble near a beach in North Tyneside, police said. Nothumbria Police attended the scene near Cullercoats Bay at around 6.30pm yesterday (July 19) after concerns were raised about the welfare of the men, both aged in their 20s.

Emergency medical teams were dispatched to the area where both men were taken out of the water. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man was taken to hospital and his condition was stated to be serious but stable. Police said the next of kin of both men have been contacted and are being supported by officers.

Chief Inspector Simon Wotton of Northumbria Police said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident and the thoughts of everyone at Northumbria Police are with everyone affected by this incident.

“We would like to thank our partner agencies who worked with the police there last night and I am sure they are as saddened by this outcome as we are. “We know this will be an extremely shocking and distressing incident for those involved and the local community, but we ask the public to respect the privacy of anyone who may have been affected.”

A report was submitted to the coroner.
