BJD’s Balasore bandh over college student’s death affects lives

Markets were closed, schools and colleges were closed, and as a group called by the opposition BJD, the vehicles remained on the road because a university student was deported in the Balasore region of Odisha.

Fakir Mohan (Autonomic) College’s second year student, after fighting for his life for three days, he died on Monday night in AIIMS-BHUBANESWAR.

On Saturday, July 12, 2025, he set himself on the campus for alleged inertia against a professor who was allegedly harassed.

The group started at 6 in the morning and continued until 14:00.

Hundreds of BJD members equipped with party flags, burn the tires and blocked the big ways of the region.

Police said that the traffic on the national highway passing through the region was held considering the protests.

In addition to the town of Balasore, BJD workers have been organizing demonstrations in places such as Jalaswar, Basta, Soro, Baliapal and Bhograi since the morning.

BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra said, “People are very angry at the rejection of justice to the student who sets themselves and died.” He said.

“The BJP government will continue to agitation throughout the state until the BJP government announced a judicial investigation to the incident.” He said.

The protesters also demanded the resignation of Higher Education Minister Sureabanshi Sure and Prime Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and accused them of not providing justice to the 20 -year -old student.

The college manager and the defendant Professor were arrested by the police.
