Women and children from alleged IS-linked families about to return to Australia from Syria, Tony Burke says | Australia news

Four Australian women and their nine children with links to suspected Islamic State fighters in Syria are preparing to return home, the Albanian government has confirmed.

The group of 13 are expected to fly to Australia very soon, home affairs minister Tony Burke said on Wednesday.

“These are people who made the terrible choice to join a dangerous terrorist organization and put their children in an unspeakable situation,” Burke said.

“As we have said many times, any member of this group who commits a crime can expect to face the full force of the law.

“Our world-class law enforcement and intelligence agencies have been preparing for their return since 2014, and we have long-standing plans to manage and monitor them.”

Burke said the group has not received any assistance from the government.

– More to come.
