Every adult in the UK will need a digital identity card given by the state under the proposals to be announced by Sir Keir Starmer.
The idea of a compulsory definition system has long been defended by labor as a way of cope with illegal migration, but it will oppose by civil freedom campaignists.
Detailed plans for the so -called ‘Brit card’ can be announced by the Prime Minister on an early date before being subject to consultation.
Under proposals, everyone who starts a new job will need to show their digital identities, so that they can be controlled against a central database.
Currently, employees have the option to show a series of different digital identities, but there is fear that they are too early to be fake.
