And so it all comes down to Spain and Argentina.

Two powerful players of football will engrave their names in the history books and become World Cup champions by playing at MetLife Stadium on Sunday at 15.00. The match will be broadcast on FOX.

Argentina has the opportunity to become the first country to win back-to-back World Cups since Brazil in 1958 and 1962, and the third country overall to win back-to-back titles. Italy won consecutive World Cups for the first time in 1934 and 1938.

However, it did not seem like they would have a chance to make history for a long time in Argentina’s semi-final match against England. The Three Lions kept Argentina off the scoresheet for 85 minutes, but Lionel Messi sparked another thrilling come-from-behind victory.

Anthony Gordon started the scoring by burying Morgan Rogers’ cross to put England first with an acrobatic finish in the 55th minute. Harry Kane sparked the counter with a long pass that stunned the Argentinian defense for the first time all match.

However, this would be the Three Lions’ only real scoring opportunity of the game. Once England got on the board, Argentina’s pressure was relentless, but England managed to fend off Argentina’s attack for nearly 30 minutes.

They eventually managed to break through when Messi positioned Enzo Fernandez just outside the penalty area and the 25-year-old curled a shot goalwards around England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to make it 1-1.

Lautaro Martinez then came off the bench and played the hero who entered Argentine football lore by scoring the winning goal at the stop. In the 92nd minute, Messi made his second assist by collecting the loose ball and making a beautiful pass into the penalty area where Martinez was waiting unmarked. Martinez passed Pickford to send the Argentine fans into a frenzy as he completed the comeback.

This was not Argentina’s first notable comeback in the title race. They scored three goals in 13 minutes in the last 16 rounds, erasing the 2-0 score against Egypt in the second half and keeping their World Cup hopes alive.

They shut out their opponents in six of their seven matches and scored just one goal in the entire tournament. Belgium was the only country that could defeat Spain, but the Spanish defeated Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

Against France in the semi-finals, Spain capitalized on an early mistake and never looked back.

Experienced French defender Lucas Digne misread the ball and challenged for the ball in midfield, but instead fouled Lamine Yamal by kicking him, giving Spain a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.

Mikel Oyarzabal came on for Spain and buried the penalty kick, giving the Spaniards a lead they could not relinquish.

Pedro Porro doubled the difference for Spain in the 58th minute, when he broke through the French defense, beat France goalkeeper Mike Maignan with Dani Olmo’s hard pass and found the back of the net.

The French desperately tried to get back into the game, but the Spanish defense was too solid for them to break through and they held on for the win.
