Seven people who were held as “cyber slaves” in Myanmar and forced to commit international financial frauds were rescued and brought back to India following an investigation by the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) crime branch, a senior official said on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

These cases were held at KK Park, a notorious “scam hub” in the country’s Myawaddy District, the official added.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Madan Ballal said, “An investigation began after Mira Road residents Syed Irtiis Fazal Abbas Hussain and Ammar Aslam Lakdawala managed to return and file a complaint at Nayanagar police station. The duo revealed that they were duped by their acquaintances Asif Khan and Adnan Sheikh with promises of jobs in Bangkok between July and September 2025. But they were taken to Myanmar.” he said.

“The victims were handed over to three individuals identified as Steve, Anna and Leo in a company called UU8. They were kept under threat of physical violence and forced to defraud foreign nationals. When they refused, the syndicate demanded a ransom of 6 lakh rupees each through various Indian bank accounts to ensure their release,” Mr. Ballal said.

Crime Branch Unit I senior inspector Sushilkumar Shinde said that the investigation revealed that Mira Bhayandar and several youths from Vasai-Virar were trapped in this cycle of cyber slavery.

“We traced the victims by analyzing passport numbers, Myanmar-based IP addresses and mobile data. This information was critical in coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Yangon through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) in New Delhi. On October 21, the Myanmar Army raided KK Park,” he said.

Leveraging data provided by the MBVV police, the Indian government this week successfully identified and repatriated seven victims, including four from the jurisdiction of the MBVV police, Mr. Shinde said.

“We arrested four key accused in this context from Mira Bhayandar, Surat in Gujarat and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. This was not just about local arrests. This was about dismantling a pipeline that was turning job seekers into digital prisoners,” ACP Ballal said.

He added that they were accused of human trafficking, kidnapping for ransom, cheating and other crimes under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Mr Shinde said investigation into the financial traces of the ransom amounts was ongoing.
