‘I view politics as…’: Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu reveals his political ambitions and single-point agenda of life

Zoho founder and chief scientist Sridhar Vembu on Monday revealed his political ambitions and declared that his aim in life is to make India a technologically powerful nation.

In a post on

“My sole agenda in life is to make Bharat a technologically powerful and self-reliant nation, which I see as critical both to our economic prosperity and to our rural and civilizational revival,” he wrote.

“Our civilization must show the world by a living example how to combine prosperity with humility and contentment, demonstrating the sustainable path to harmonize humanity and the natural world,” the former Zoho CEO said.

He emphasized the need to be efficient in technology to revive the pride of the country.

“Our past 1,000 years of history have left us with deep civilizational scars, and the defeatist, colonialist mentality is one of them. Being world-class in technology is the key to regaining true pride in ourselves as a nation, and building this technology with rural talents will spread the wealth throughout society,” he said.

Sridhar Vembu’s political ambitions

Sridhar Vembu said he will use his skills in research and development to build the nation. “We need people who will delve into R&D. I have some talent in this area, and this is the best use of my life for our nation.”

Zoho’s chief scientist revealed his political plans.

“I see politics as a public service and a democratic duty in which citizens should be involved, but given my top priority in life, I cannot and will not be involved in active electoral politics,” he said.

Vembu’s comments come after he left his role as CEO last year to become Zoho’s chief scientist. At that time, he said that he did not want to participate in active politics.

Netizens praise Zoho’s founder

Sridhar Vembu’s post was met with applause from netizens who praised his vision to advance India technologically. They were impressed by Zoho’s founder’s goal of making India a self-sufficient country and how he wanted to contribute through competence and not politics.

One person commented, “True! There is no need for everyone to enter electoral politics to serve the nation. Contribution through qualification is equally powerful.”

“India’s richest business leaders grow through finance and business ‘engineering’. Sridhar grows and invests through true engineering with a very long-term focus. This makes him different from those in India,” added another.

“Deep tech + rural empowerment = true nation-building. Building world-class technology while strengthening rural talent is the path to lasting national pride and self-reliance,” a third commented.
