Iran condemns US strike on vessel that killed 3 Indian crew members

In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased sailors and the people and government of India.
“US brutal attacks on Indian merchant ships that killed at least three Indian nationals are clear evidence of America’s ongoing policy of armed robbery and state piracy,” Baghaei said. he said.
He also called on the international community to hold Washington accountable for what he described as unlawful behavior, claiming that US actions threaten global peace and security and endanger freedom of navigation.
These remarks came after India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the attack on the merchant ship Settebello off the coast of Oman. The MEA said 21 of the 24 Indian crew on board were rescued, while three Indians were initially reported missing.
“Our Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operation,” the ministry said. he said.
India also expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the region, stating that the repeated attacks on shipping are extremely worrying and stem from the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. MEA reiterated its call for immediate de-escalation of tensions and stressed the need for a diplomatic solution to restore peace and stability in the region.
