‘If Anyone’s Catching a Snowball, It’s Me’

Mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani (D) urged New Yorkers to treat NYPD officers with “respect” after a viral video showed some of the boys in blue being pelted with snowballs.

“I have seen videos of kids throwing snowballs at NYPD officers in Washington Square Park,” Mamdani said in a statement. sent to x on Tuesday. “Officers, like all city workers, are keeping New Yorkers safe and cars moving during a historic snowstorm. Treat them with respect. If anyone catches snowballs, it’s me.”

Videos taken from Washington Square Park after the Northeast was battered by a historic winter storm showed crowds throwing snowballs at several police officers in the park and quickly went viral. One of the clips showed a police officer with a cut above his eye.

Officers pushed some of the criminals into the snow, but no arrests appeared to be made.
