‘I’ll kill you too’ alleged threat after fatal sparring

The ex-girlfriend of a professional cage fighter accused of killing a friend during a bout testified that he later threatened her and asked if her eyes looked bad.

Bradley Dusan Fletcher, 39, is on trial for the murder of Bradley Evennett, 32, after they got into an argument over boxing gloves on March 22, 2024, as they celebrated moving into a shared house together.

Fletcher’s girlfriend, Jasmine Robinson, who is scheduled to move into the home at Melonba in Sydney’s northwest, told the NSW Supreme Court hearing on Monday that she was “best friends” with Mr Evennett, whom she knew by the nickname “B-rad”.

Ms Robinson said the men spent the afternoon drinking and doing “men’s work” and appeared to be enjoying each other.

“The kids started having a few beers and we were all in good spirits,” Ms Robinson said.

“They were in the back. They were wandering around like kids.”

Speaking to the court, Robinson said he left home to attend to other matters when he received a phone call from Fletcher.

Fletcher said Mr Evennett had fallen and needed to come back, but he called again a short time later and said he had stopped breathing and needed to hurry, Ms Robinson said.

When she returned to the house, Ms. Robinson said she saw a large amount of blood and saw Mr. Evennett lying face down on the backyard grass and Fletcher pacing around.

“So I said, ‘what’s going on, what’s going on here, why did you do this?’ Mrs. Robinson said.

“He charged towards me. He said, ‘I had to do this. He doesn’t care about your safety, you don’t understand.'”

Fletcher allegedly went to get Mr Evennett and Ms Robinson said he tried to knock her out, causing her to scream.

“That’s when he came to me and said, ‘Shut up, I’ll kill you too,'” he said.

Fletcher then began making phone calls and Ms Robinson said she used this as an opportunity to leave.

Ms Robinson told the court that as she was leaving Fletcher asked her: “Look at my eyes, do they look bad to you now?” He said he asked.

After a while, Ms Robinson said she went to Mount Druitt police station.

Mr Evennett’s body was found dumped on a footpath with head injuries, brain haemorrhage, broken eye and facial bones, broken teeth (including molars found in his respiratory tract), broken ribs and abrasions to his limbs and neck.

Fletcher has pleaded not guilty to Mr Evennett’s murder, claiming his death was accidental during a sparring session.

The man, now 39, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but his lesser plea was rejected by prosecutors.

The trial continues.
