India allows 25 lakh tonnes additional wheat exports, total reaches 50 lakh tonnes

On April 20, the Center allowed the export of additional 25 lakh tonnes of wheat, considering a comfortable stock position in the face of the possibility of another strong harvest.
Along with this, a total of 50 lakh tons of wheat and 10 lakh tons of wheat products were allowed to be exported.
“The export policy of wheat… remains prohibited. However, additional export of 25 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of wheat is allowed,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification. he said.
It was stated that detailed methods regarding this will be announced in a separate instruction.
“Furthermore, the existing policy condition as stated in the DGFT dated May 13, 2022 continues to apply, wherein on the basis of permission granted by the Government of India to other countries to meet their food security needs and upon the request of their governments, exports beyond the said additional permitted quantity of 25 LMT of wheat will also be permitted.”
According to the second preliminary estimate of the Ministry of Agriculture, the country’s wheat production is determined as 120.2 million tons for the 2025-26 harvest year (July-June). The higher production was due to the increase in wheat acreage area to 33.41 million hectares in the 2026 rabi season compared to 32.80 million hectares in the previous year.
In early January, the government allowed the export of 5 lakh tonnes of wheat products, followed by an additional 5 lakh tonnes of wheat products and 25 lakh tonnes of wheat in February.
