India names Neelkanth Mishra as executive director at World Bank

New Delhi: The government on Thursday appointed economist Neelkanth Mishra as executive director for India at the World Bank Group, replacing Parameswaran Iyer, whose more than three-year term is about to end.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Personnel and Training, Mishra’s appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, will be valid for three years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The Indian ED at the World Bank also represents Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka.
Mishra, a part-time member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, has played many important roles in his professional career. He is chief economist at Axis Bank and heads global research at Axis Capital.

He was also part-time chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India and part-time member of TRAI.
