Callum Simpson vs Troy Williamson: Williamson stops Simpson in 10 rounds

Williamson, 34, also won the light-middleweight belt to become a two-division British champion and has a slew of results after three defeats in his last five fights.

Simpson, meanwhile, suffered his first professional defeat in 19 fights and, after being serenaded by a raucous crowd chanting “Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire” for much of the night, quickly jumped on the microphone to quell any potential trouble in the audience.

The Barnsley native sells most of his tickets in person to fans and paid tribute to them following the defeat.

Simpson was ahead on the judges’ scorecards when he was stopped in the 10th.

“I thought I won most of the rounds. It was always going to be a tough fight with Troy and I got caught with a very good shot,” he said.

“I want to thank everyone who attended tonight and everyone who is still here.

“I just got taken down and everyone is still here chanting my name. I won’t forget that.

“We have a rematch. I’m going to get back to work, I’m going to come back and I’m going to fix this. Thank you for being loyal to me. I’ll be back.”

A rematch could happen in 2026 and Williamson said he welcomed “all comers” into the new year.

“This is for my son at home,” Williamson said.

“He comes up to me every day and says ‘and the new one…’ I don’t even have to tell him.

“I promised him I’d bring the belts back to the hotel tonight and I’m absolutely delighted.”

Williamson added: “This fight changed my life. I always wanted my children to have a better upbringing than I did.

“I deserved it tonight with the performance of my life. I changed mine and my children’s lives for the better.”
