Former Vice President Kamala Harris is a “pretty clear” frontrunner for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, multiple Democratic aides and strategists suggested Monday.
New York Magazine’s Intelligencer He spoke with several Harris aides about her potential chances if she chooses to enter the race following her defeat in the 2024 presidential election.
Despite her loss, some anonymous Democratic supporters believe Harris has an edge over other party candidates due to her name recognition and recent public appearances, according to the report.

“He’s first in line. It’s pretty obvious he’s being followed wherever he goes,” a former aide said. “And I don’t want to upset any narrative that any of the other candidates are pushing, but he comes in with 99 percent name ID and everyone else is going to have to raise money and buy it.”
“He’s looking for where the wave will go and is determined to ride it,” another supporter said. “His mentality was that I had to win and I was going to do it my way because my way would win and it was all these advisors that told me to take this position or that position and it was their fault.”
While some worry that Harris could be bogged down by her past support for the Biden administration and controversial viewpoints, others have suggested that voters will be more forgiving of the former vice president after the second Trump administration.

But not everyone who spoke to the Intelligencer was optimistic about Harris’ chances or whether she would run again in 2028. A New York donor has expressed doubts that he can convince major donors that he can win the White House.
“I hope he gets the nomination,” Democratic strategist Alex Hoffman said. “Because then he’ll lose and we’ll never have to hear from him again. He’ll never win an election on a national scale. Never.”
