In Assam’s BTR, village bodies are sports talent hunters

The implementation of government plans, the provision of service provision and the monitoring of projects is not the only responsibilities of the Village Council Development Committees (VCDCs) of Assam’s Bodoland Regional Region (BTR). They are also facilitating activities to develop sports hunters and athletic skills.

The BTR, which consists of five regions surrounding Bhutan, is managed by Bodoland Regional Council (BTC).

About a year ago, the BTC government launched an experiment to re -brand BTR as one of India’s most energetic base sports incubators. It has created a favorable atmosphere to identify potential athletes in VCDCs and play the most popular sports – football.

Supported with the help of the BTR government’s financial and basic infrastructure, preparation ended in June at the first multi -layered Bodoland CEO cup festival. The unique format is the matches between the village teams in each of the five regions of BTR – look, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Tamulpur and Udalguri.

“The best teams in the VCDC level tournaments have graduated up to the level of BTC election zones.

If this was not enough, the Council government has integrated the modern sports with traditional domestic faith and culture festivals such as Baokhungri, which was held the day before the mid -April or Bodo Avatar Bwisagu. Adventure sports are also a component of such gender comprehensive festivals.
