In order to safeguard the rights of the growing platform-based workforce, the Karnataka government has officially launched a special grievance redressal mechanism for platform-based gig workers. The mechanism, the first of its kind in India, has been developed by the Karnataka Platform-based Gig Workers’ Board in collaboration with the e-Governance Department.

With the new initiative coming into force, employees will now be able to formally submit their complaints, including salary, working conditions and platform-specific disputes, through the Integrated Public Grievance Resolution System (IPGRS) portal. This creates a formal bridge between the State’s hundreds of thousands of gig workers and the tech aggregators they serve. It is believed that this will provide transparency and legal recourse to the workforce, which has so far operated without a formal dispute resolution framework.
