IndiGo flight with Assam CM on board diverted to Agartala due to bad weather in Guwahati

An official, on August 25, 2025 on Monday, Assam Prime Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with an Indigo flight of Guwahati, was directed to Tripura’s Agartala airport due to harsh weather conditions in the neighboring state.
He said that the flight deviation was carried out as a precautionary measure on Sunday evening.
KC Meena, director of a bikram (MBB) airport in the Agartala, flew to Guwahati after a improvement in the weather conditions in Guwahati.
“Indigo flight from Mohanbari Airport in Dibrugarh could not go to Guwahati due to heavy rainfall and storms, and he was guided as a precautionary measure to Agartala. Then the plane was reserved for Guwahati,” he said.
Agartala Airport Director, Guwahati’daki Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Mr. Sarma is on the flight.
Meena said, “Derivation was caused by weather conditions without reporting technical problems.” He said.
As the flight landed at Agartala Airport, Tripura Tourism Minister Susanta Chowdury went there to meet Mr. Sarma.
Later, on a Facebook post, Mr. Chowdhury said, “Assam Prime Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji’s plane at Agartala Airport due to the bad weather in Guwahati after getting information about the emergency landing at Agartala Airport, I ran to the airport and spent some time with Dada [elder brother]. ”
Mr. Meena said that normal operations continue after the weather conditions in Guwahati.
“After being directed, five flights had landed at the MBB airport on Sunday, and all of which were reserved for their goals,” Meena said. He said.
The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) in Guwahati foresees heavy rainfall and storms between 14:30 and 20:30 on August 24, and asked the airlines to advise the potential interruptions.
Another official said that Indigo warned passengers about the expected delays in flight operations in the Northeast due to permanent harsh weather conditions.
A statement from the Prime Ministry in Guwahati reiterated that the deviance was carried out for the benefit of the security of the passengers and that an unwanted event was not reported during the short stop in Agartala.
The authority advises the northeast region that the northeast continues to face uncertain weather and the authorities should closely monitor flight updates before traveling to passengers.
