Influencer killed by husband after she used TikTok Netflix trend to out him as an accused pedophile, cops say

A social media influencer was shot to death by her estranged husband after he exposed himself as a pedophile using a TikTok trend, police said.

Sara Gilson, 43, was shot and killed by her husband, Jeremiah ‘Shawn’ Duffey, 48, in a horrific murder-suicide when he broke into her Owasso, Oklahoma, home on July 23, according to police.

The conflict arose after Gilson posted a TikTok post on July 11 in which he followed a ‘Netflix documentary’ trend in which users pretended to sit down for an interview on the streaming platform.

While this trend has largely been used to satirize trivial events and jokes, Gilson used this clip to poke fun at the breakdown of her marriage due to her husband’s alleged pedophilia.

“I’m getting ready for Netflix to release a documentary about my soon-to-be ex-husband, who I just found out is a pedophile,” Gilson wrote in the video.

Gilson, a mother of two, added “I wish I was joking” in the caption, and the clip has been viewed more than six million times.

According to the protective order filed by the girl’s mother on June 10, Duffey was allegedly caught kissing and touching a 15-year-old girl by another coach on the youth basketball team he coached.

The couple’s marriage ended in 2021 when Gilson filed two protective orders against her husband. Those orders were denied at the time because Gilson failed to appear in court, The Oklahoman reported.

On June 10, the same day as Duffey’s alleged victim filed, Gilson also filed for another emergency protective order against Duffey, claiming he had a gun, threatened suicide, and then ‘ran away.’

Duffey was never arrested or charged with any crime for the alleged incident.

A report was filed with the Owasso Police Department regarding the allegations, but it is unclear whether Duffey was the subject of an investigation before his death. The Daily Mail contacted the Owasso Police Department for comment.

In Gilson’s protective order, the judge ordered Duffey to leave their home and stay at least 100 feet away from him, People reported.

The protection order was later extended from June 23 to August 24.

Duffey was also the subject of another protective order filed by the female student’s mother on the same day as his wife.

She claimed that her daughter was kissed and touched by the youth basketball team coach.

Another coach reportedly caught her red-handed, and the girl told her mother that Duffey’s inappropriate behavior ranged from texting, inviting her to his hotel room during a tournament trip and offering her money for her silence, according to the lawsuit.

Gilson, a mother of two, had a protection order from her husband, but police say he broke into her home and shot her to death before turning the gun on himself.

Duffey’s own TikTok account also featured crude clips about her personal life; One of them also coughed and made the following statement: ‘If you like to pull hair and bite, you’re sick.’

In another video she used the caption: ‘It seems like every girl’s ex was toxic, controlling and manipulative.’

‘His children were the center of his world and everything he did was for them. ‘He loved them fiercely, worked hard to provide for them, and dreamed of giving them the best life possible.’
