‘Injury or death’: Popular cat laser toys urgently pulled from shelves

Many popular cat laser toys were immediately pulled from shelves due to a potentially fatal error.
The ACCC has recalled three laser cat toys sold nationally in online pet shops that failed mandatory standards for button batteries.
All cat laser toys were immediately pulled from shelves due to unsecured batteries that could be swallowed by small children or pets.
“Children face the risk of suffocation, serious injury, or death if they swallow or insert button/coin batteries into their bodies,” the recall said.
Anyone who suspects a child has swallowed a button battery is asked to contact Triple-0 immediately.
“Early intervention can save lives,” the recall notice read.
“Do not wait for symptoms to develop.”

Kong laser cat toy (SKU H19C138) was sold between November 5, 2020 and December 5, 2025 and was available for purchase online at Pet Circle, PetZoo, 99 Pet Shop, and Pet Shack.
The Pet Gravity laser retractable cat wand (SKU PFLPGCT053 and PFLPGCT054) was available for purchase online from Pet Circle and Amazon in pink and blue between October 8 and December 19, 2025.

Consumers who own cat toys are told to stop using the products immediately and keep them out of reach of children.
Owners of the toys can contact Pet Circle for a full refund.
“If you own the product, gave it to someone else, or disposed of the product, contact Pet Circle,” the recall notice read.
