Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in celebrating the 12th International Yoga Day from the Red Path here on Sunday morning, June 21, 2026.

This year’s theme for International Yoga Day is “Yoga for Healthy Aging”, highlighting the role of yoga in promoting physical health, mental well-being, emotional resilience and active aging and contributing to improved quality of life.

Mr Modi will address a meeting at Red Road in central Kolkata while participating in a joint yoga protocol session with thousands of yoga practitioners during the programme, an official statement said.

Yoga Day celebrations are held in nearly 2,500 locations around the world, with participation of more than 210 Indian missions and destinations, reaffirming yoga’s status as a global movement for health, harmony and collective well-being.

The statement said that since its inception in 2015, when the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) accepted India’s proposal to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day, the Prime Minister has led the celebrations from various locations, including New Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Mysuru, New York, Srinagar and Vishakhapatnam.
