Iran announces $7 monthly payment to citizens amid ongoing protests: report

According to reports, the Iranian government has said its citizens will be given a monthly payment equivalent to around $7 to ease economic pressures as protests spread across the country.
The announcement was reportedly made by government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani on Iranian State TV on Monday.
He said the measure was aimed at protecting “households'” purchasing power, controlling inflation and ensuring food security. New York Times.
The outlet also said the plan represents a shift from longstanding import subsidies to direct aid to citizens.

According to the proposal, approximately $10 billion spent each year to subsidize certain imports will now be given directly to the public.
Eligible Iranians will receive one million Iranian tomans, worth approximately $7, in the form of credit that can be used to purchase goods.
The labor minister said the payments would be distributed to about 80 million people, who make up the majority of Iran’s population.
